For an easier pregnancy, massage can relieve
discomfort and possibly even make labor easier. Massage also tends to instill a
feeling of well-being to both mother and unborn child. Many pregnant women
develop lower back pain, problems in their hips, retain fluid and become swollen
and develop neck problems because they have to sleep on their sides. These can
all be treated with massage.
Touch is vital to the mother's physical and emotional well-being as she adapts
to her new body image. Regardless of individual circumstances, a pregnant
woman's body is challenged, changed and stressed in many ways. Massage gives
special attention to the mother-to-be, which in turn nurtures the new life that
grows within her.
The sooner a pregnant woman starts receiving massage - ideally, once or twice a
month - the better! Massage can help prepare a woman for labor by showing her
what it feels like to truly relax.
Massage given after birth on an ongoing basis helps to relieve backaches,
stress, fatigue, headaches and postpartum depression. Massage helps alleviate
these discomforts and supports the new mother as she adjusts through the
postpartum time.
When combined with proper exercise and diet, massage following birth will be an
asset in regaining normal weight, firming slack muscles and relieving pain in
body parts she might have strained during labor.
I use "Prego-Pillow", making prenatal massage a real treat - you get to lie on your tummy in true comfort!
